The Shocker Story
Summary
Thirty years ago a team of students, teachers, and partners from rural North Carolina were presented with a challenge: Convert a gas-powered car to electric power, and race against other teams on a NASCAR track. They called their car Shocker, and they shocked everyone by winning regional, national, and international competitions. Shocker is a story of community, teacher, and student pride wrapped in racing stripes. It’s Hoosiers meets Ford vs. Ferrari.

We’re bringing the story of Team Shocker to schools and events through a documentary series and mobile exhibit that will inspire the next generation of innovators and underdogs. We tailor the experience to different grade levels, subjects, and event themes.

Shocker grew out of Make Your Move!, which is focused on connecting students to the past, present, and future of transportation.
